Seth Rollins and Charlotte Flair Win Titles During SummerSlam

The SummerSlam pay-per-view took place last night and featured quite a number of title changes. In addition to the Universal Championship and Raw Women’s Championship, two other championships that were on the line last night changed hands: the Intercontinental Championship and the SmackDown Women’s Championship. Carmella had been holding onto the women’s title while Ziggler wore the IC title again on Raw, but unfortunately for them, both of their title reigns officially came to an end during WWE’s huge event in the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York last night. Seth Rollins is once again Intercontinental Champion while Charlotte Flair has regained the SmackDown Women’s Championship.

SummerSlam kicked off on the WWE Network last night with an Intercontinental Championship match between Seth Rollins and defending champion Dolph Ziggler. Of course, Ziggler did have Drew McIntyre in his corner desperately attempting to help him out during the match, but luckily for Rollins, his Shield ally Dean Ambrose stood in his corner to help even the odds. After a fast-paced back and fourth match, Rollins was able to stomp Ziggler’s head down on the ring canvas and score a pinfall victory over him to win the Intercontinental Championship. The win officially kicks off Rollins’ second reign as the IC Champ, which means that Ziggler’s sixth run as the titleholder came to an end last night at 62 days.
Carmella was hoping to retain the Smackdown Women’s Championship during her Triple Threat match against Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair at SummerSlam last night, but the competition proved to be too much for “The Princess of Staten Island.” Flair defeated Lynch and Carmella to win her seventh women’s championship in WWE. Carmella had been the champion ever since she cashed in her Money in the Bank contract on Flair on the SmackDown after WrestleMania earlier this year. After that match, Lynch hugged Flair only to then suddenly attack her. Although Flair and Lynch were friends going into the match, it is definitely clear now that the friendship between these two SmackDown stars has come to an end.
