Chris Jericho recently spoke to Sportskeeda about a variety of pro wrestling topics. One of those topics was AEW, the new pro wrestling company founded by Cody Rhodes and The Young Bucks.
Jericho will be a major focus for AEW, as the promotion is set to make a huge impact on the industry. Of course from the moment that AEW was announced, many fans assumed that it would become the next destination for anyone in WWE that decided Vince McMahon’s empire was no longer for them.
But that doesn’t seem to be the case, as Jericho suggests that AEW will focus more on the talent involved rather than the talent’s background.
“It’s different. We’re not doing it that way where anyone who doesn’t like what they’re doing in WWE is automatically guaranteed a job in AEW. We will look at every talent on an individual basis. There’s some guys we’d love to have in WWE, and there’s some guys we probably wouldn’t take. Obviously we haven’t even had a show yet and our roster is already very deep. When you talk about the Double or Nothing show, how many people can you book on that show? If you have 60-70 guys, you end up with the same problem as WWE.”
Several WWE Superstars have made noise about reportedly being unhappy over the past several months. That includes The Revival and Dean Ambrose, who actually walked away from WWE though he’s supposedly just taking a break.
But now Sasha Banks can be added to the list of disgruntled Superstars that are evidently not happy with WWE. The Boss reportedly was upset over dropping the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships and wanted out of WWE as a result. Luke Harper has also asked for his release from the company and this trend may not be over yet.

While AEW could very well be the landing spot for some of these talents, Jericho has made the company’s position very clear. Cody recently echoed that sentiment on The Ross Report, where he essentially said that the WWE experience was great but it wasn’t enough for anyone wanting to join AEW.
